Hi and welcome to fakemadrid! My name is Andy and this is a blog to help collect my thoughts about travelling, with a specific focus on SPAIN.
This blog, a part of the subject Going Places:Travelling Smarter, will hopefully reveal things about myself that I would never encounter just looking through my own lens of life.
“For in traveling to a truly foreign place, we inevitably travel to moods and states of mind and hidden inward passages that we’d otherwise seldom have cause to visit.” – Pico Iyer
What interests me about travel is the exploration of different cultures. What one country is passionate about may not even exist in another. From my travels I hope to gain insight into what drives the culture of a place, whether it is history, technology or even politics.
The country specialisation that this blog will be about, is the country of Spain. The fourth largest country in Europe and also accompanied by a variety of islands. There are also various autonomous communities within different regions of Spain, such as Madrid, Catalonia and Valencia.
This blog aims to explore the culture of Spanish Football, an aspect of Spain that has both reasons to be celebrated and be under scrutiny.
As you can see from the above photo, spanish football isn’t always simply about the sport, politics are often involved, especially in matches involving different autonomous regions. It is this phenomenon that draws me to explore the culture of football in Spain.
